Kristi & Dave's Post-Ceremony Reception at Lazy Hiker Brewery | Wayah Bald Elopement Franklin North Carolina - 3/4
Dinner at Motor Company Grill: Comfort Food for a Low-Key Wedding Day
First stop: Motor Company Grill a retro '50s-style diner in the heart of downtown Franklin. Their small group filled a long table at the back of the room for a dinner that was somehow both intimate and rowdy burgers, shakes, fries, and an old-fashioned soda fountain menu with something for everyone. Kristi and Dave fed their whole group for under $350, and every single person left full. If you're planning a small wedding on a real budget, it's hard to beat a plan this simple, this fun, and this cheap.
A Surprise Welcome at Lazy Hiker Brewery
Wait, it gets better! Just a hop, skip and a jump down the road (literally), is Lazy Hiker Brewery. This is where the official reception began. We walked in, Kristi dressed in a wedding dress and Dave in his fine suit and approached the bar. Everyone there cheered and congratulated the couple- and bought them drinks! We are so grateful that Kristi and Dave stepped out of the norm and were willing to blaze their own path in this high-pressure wedding planning world. If that wasn’t amazing enough, there was a concert in the park behind the brewery. The couple danced together in front of a crowd of locals in lawn chairs and kids playing with beach balls. Everyone enjoyed an amazing performance (and the unforgettable party didn’t cost a dime). We ended our photography coverage by lighting a Chinese lantern and making wishes for the future. The entire day was perfectly representative of the couple, through and through.
Dancing, a Concert in the Park, and a Lantern Send-Off
Then it got even better. A free outdoor concert was already happening in the park behind the brewery, so Kristi and Dave danced their first dance in front of a crowd of locals in lawn chairs and kids chasing beach balls - a reception with a full live soundtrack that didn't cost them a dime. We closed out the night releasing a lantern into the sky and making wishes for the years ahead.
Why a Brewery Reception Works So Well for an Elopement
If you're planning a small wedding or elopement in Franklin, NC and picturing something other than a rented ballroom, a local brewery reception is worth serious consideration:
No minimums, no rented linens - just walk in as a married couple and let the room react
Built-in atmosphere - good beer, good music, and usually a crowd happy to celebrate with you
Budget-friendly - Kristi and Dave's entire dinner-and-reception night cost a fraction of a traditional venue rental
Genuinely memorable - a spontaneous concert or a room full of strangers cheering for you isn't something you can put on a checklist
