A Mountain Wedding With Heart: Caitlyn, Eli, and Toby’s Story
Caitlyn and Eli are heading to the mountains this summer to say “I do” at Hawkesdene, one of the coziest and most picturesque wedding venues nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Andrews, NC. Last year, I had the absolute joy of photographing them (and their incredible dog, Toby!) at one of my favorite waterfall cascades in North Carolina. It was the kind of day you dream about—easy, breezy, full of laughter, and lots of love.
Let me tell you about Toby—this 7-year-old mixed breed (Pyrenees, boxer, pit bull mix) is not just their dog; he’s family. Caitlyn adopted him from the humane society when he was 2, and you can tell that he’s been her best buddy ever since. Toby brought so much heart and personality to their photoshoot, from bounding around the forest with pure joy to stopping just long enough to pose like the star he is. It’s safe to say he was born for the camera.
And here’s the best part: Toby’s not just showing up for the wedding—he’s got a starring role as the ring bearer! I can already imagine him trotting down the aisle, tail wagging, wearing some dapper doggy accessory that’s bound to make everyone smile. It’s these kinds of personal touches that make weddings so special, and Caitlyn and Eli’s day is shaping up to be one for the books.
As I look back at their waterfall photos, I’m reminded of how strong their connection is. You can see it in their stillness, their laughter, and the way they just get each other. It’s a love that feels effortless, like they’ve been a team forever—and Toby is right there in the mix, completing the picture. Life with someone who loves you for who you are (and adores your dog as much as you do)? That’s the dream.
Yesterday, we planned their wedding day together, and I’m already counting down the days until I can reconnect with them—and Toby—in person. Their celebration will be a perfect reflection of who they are: no fluff, no over-the-top production—just genuine love, family, and the natural beauty of the mountains.
And honestly, it doesn’t hurt that Hawkesdene is one of the most stunning venues in the NC Blue Ridge Mountains. Between the cozy charm of the estate and the incredible mountain scenery, it’s the kind of place that makes every wedding feel like a dream.
